About Your Builder’s Edge
A free library of practical guides on running a residential building business in Australia, for builders and the managers who run their jobs.
What you’ll find here
Guides on the parts of the business that decide whether a year is a good one: pricing jobs and protecting margin, keeping cash coming in, contracts and variations, running sites to program, handing over without a defect list, hiring and keeping good people, and getting the next job from the last one.
Each guide is short enough to read between site visits. It explains the problem, shows what builders who’ve solved it actually do, and ends with steps you can start on this week.
Where the advice comes from
We talk with top builders, coaches and advisers, keep across what’s working in the industry, and pull out what works. Every number in a guide links to where it came from, so you can hear it from the builder who said it. When an example comes from New Zealand or the US, the guide says so, and when the law differs between states, it names the state.
Ads and sponsorship
Every guide is free, with no sign up. The site is paid for by advertising and sponsored guides.
- Sponsored guides carry a clear “Sponsored by” label at the top.
- Sponsors choose which topic carries their name. Our editors decide what the guide says.
- Ads sit beside or below a guide, away from the advice.
- Guides name software and suppliers where it helps you, including our sponsors and their competitors.
